Have you ever watched motor racing on TV and wondered what it would be like back in the mid-1900s? With Goodwood Revival, you can experience this first-hand. The Goodwood Revival festival is the world’s only historic motor race meeting to be staged entirely in a period theme; celebrating the iconic cars and fashion of the late 40s to mid-60s, if you want to fully immerse yourself in this time period and experience what life was like for keen motorists (and their fans!) back then, this is the event for you.
What is the Goodwood Revival Festival?
Held each September at the iconic Goodwood Circuit, Goodwood Revival is a three-day festival that showcases the types of racing cars and motorcycles that would have competed during the circuit’s original period of 1948–1966.
Festival details
This year, Goodwood Revival will take place between the 8-10 September, with gates opening at 07:30 on Friday. Getting to the event is easy – many like to drive their own cars to the festival in solidarity with the event’s motor theme, but you can also get a train from London to Chichester where there will be taxis available to take you the short distance to the grounds.
What to expect from Goodwood Revival Festival
Held over three days in early September, the event follows three different unforgettable itineraries.
Friday
Also known as the qualifying day, on Friday guests can preview all the cars, bikes and aircraft, before getting involved in the many mini celebrations in the evening.
Saturday
Sensational Saturday is a full day of racing; don’t miss the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy bike race and the hugely popular St Mary’s Trophy saloon car race.
Sunday
On the final day of Goodwood Revival, festival attendees can watch more thrilling head-to-head racing, before the weekend is closed and the winners are officially crowned.
Revival Car Show
For those wanting to check out what the event offers off-track, don’t miss the iconic Revival car show. With over 3,000 vintage vehicles lined up for viewing, keen motor enthusiasts can fill their boots observing the many rare and wonderful automobile classics.
Vintage Clothing and Revive & Thrive
Given the period Goodwood Revival is set in, attendees are also encouraged to dress in the styles of the eras. For those that don’t yet own many pieces from the late 40s, fashion from the 50s, or outfits from the 60s, the festival also offers a mock-up high street shopping experience where festivalgoers can purchase vintage clothes that’ll help them fully immerse themselves in these iconic years from the past.
Goodwood Revival festival is the ultimate event for those who want to experience the past – right in the very present. Even if you’re not motor racing obsessed, Goodwood is truly one of a kind and shouldn’t be missed.
