Ruti’s Triumphant Return: New Single ‘Break My Own Heart’ Marks a Bold Step Forward

Ruti, the powerhouse singer-songwriter, has made a powerful return with their new single, “Break My Own Heart.” Following the success of their earlier EP Lungs, this new track solidifies Ruti’s place as a unique voice in the UK music scene. Described by Ruti as a reflection on overthinking, the song is a sonic blend of electronic, pop, and alternative elements, crafting a distinctive and immersive listening experience. Ruti explains, “Break My Own Heart is simply about overthinking. It’s a conversation with myself… it can lead to disappointment, but most importantly it takes me out of the moment.”

Collaborating with Marlon Roudette and Congee, Ruti found a strong creative chemistry that they’re eager to explore further. The song’s emotional depth is matched by Ruti’s compelling vocal performance, a quality that made their EP Lungs a standout, establishing them as an artist on the rise. The EP, released in May, was lauded for its rich, soulful sound and candid lyricism. Ruti’s music isn’t just about building a fanbase; it’s about creating a community, sharing personal experiences with honesty and authenticity.

Born in Thurrock to a Nigerian father and an Essex-born mother, Ruti’s initial love was dance, a passion that introduced them to music at a young age. After impressing a crowd with a rendition of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” at a holiday camp, Ruti’s journey into singing began. They studied music in school, writing songs despite initial fears of sharing their work.

Ruti’s music journey led them from major label experiences to signing with PMR Records, where they had the freedom to develop their sound organically. Their 2023 project MixTea_Mixtape! was a pivotal moment, blending pop, R&B, and gospel influences. This project allowed Ruti to collaborate with like-minded musicians, resulting in a raw and vulnerable collection of songs that resonated deeply with fans.

Lungs, Ruti’s latest EP, explores themes of independence, personal growth, and moving beyond denial. Collaborating with talents like Emily Philips, Wayne Wilkins, and Jo Caleb, Ruti crafted songs that delve into personal experiences, including the heartache of a failed relationship. Tracks like “Don’t Make A Sound” and “Bubblehouse Bounce (move as one)” showcase Ruti’s versatile sound, from introspective ballads to upbeat, energetic anthems. The EP also features a captivating cover of Tears For Fears’ classic “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”

Inspired by artists like Laura Mvula, Björk, Gabriels, and Moses Sumney, Ruti embraces a genre-defying approach, emphasizing honesty and self-expression. With plans for more releases and live shows this year, Ruti is eager to continue connecting with audiences. They find performing to be a healing act, offering a sense of relief and pure expression. Despite battling self-doubt, Ruti is committed to their journey, ready to face whatever comes next, bolstered by the community they’ve built and the support of those around them.
