Always a style leader, Leeds led the march to café culture in the late-Nineties while other cities were still smarting from the loss of half-day closing. Once a major football mecca (and may again be at some juncture, although it needs a goal-scorer first), it melds a terrace chic with a narrower silhouette forged by such local music talents as Kaiser Chiefs, the Cribs and Alt-J. Leeds has long been a haven for night owls and this is where you can truly admire the city’s fashion credentials. In a bar recently, a man was overheard extolling, “By, there’s some goddesses in Leeds.” Let it be said that Yorkshire lasses dress to impress; the men have a job on their hands keeping up.
