Global artist, trailblazer and entrepreneur MR EAZI teams up with rap powerhouse TYGA to deliver the infectious new single, “TONY MONTANA.”
Continuing his ascent as one of the most influential and progressive African artists to break into the mainstream, MR EAZI is crashing boundaries across the wider culture space with his emPawa Africa initiative — Africa’s first incubator program designed to develop talents within the continent, of which YouTube Music are an official partner.
Boasting over 260 million YouTube views and over 4 million Spotify streams per month, the Nigerian afropop star has recently finished a run of UK dates, culminating in a sold-out show at London’s 02 FORUM where he brought out special guests CHRONIXX, M.O and SNEAKBO.
Earning plaudits and nods from outlets including ROLLING STONE, THE NEW YORK TIMES, COMPLEX, VOGUE, FORBES and THE FADER as well as fellow artists like pop icon BEYONCÉ (who featured him on two tracks from her The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack) and J BALVIN (who selected Mr Eazi to open his Fall 2018 arena tour, and featured him on his recent LP with BAD BUNNY, Oasis), MR EAZI has his sights firmly set on global domination across 2020. His 2018 highly covered mixtape Life is Eazi, Vol. 2 – Lagos To London saw him collaborate with a range of top-tier international names including GIGGS, DIPLO, BURNA BOY and CHRONIXX, positioning the release as one of the most innovative crossover projects of the year.
Speaking on “TONY MONTANA,” Mr Eazi says:
“The energy of the record defines where I am right now in my head. It’s like an announcement of my transition from Mr Eazi to Don Eazi. Once Killertunes (the song’s producer) sent the record, it was an instant connection. I had two possible records I wanted to do with Tyga, one uptempo and this one, and he was attracted to this one more naturally. Working with Tyga has been a true collaboration — from writing to mixing, mastering and the video — I’m learning so much from him.”
The “TONY MONTANA” video was shot in Paris and directed by MAHANEELA.
