Q&A with Jade Hannah
Tell us a little bit about Jade Hannah.
The world is my palette and the people my study. I look at the world through my camera and all the details that others may not see, they make up my world and create my art. Art isn’t just pretty, it shall relate and sell to be worthily called art.
You don’t see me in the spotlight as my art is my heart and would rather that be famous. I would rather you know what I feel and what I shoot, instead of which couture gown I wore.
Where is home?
I’ve grown up on two continents, and I consider both of them home (Arizona, USA & Stockholm, Sweden) I currently reside in Stockholm, Sweden. This is where my heart is, and it’s a great central location when working in Europe.
If you could live anywhere on this awesome planet, where would you build your dream home?
I would split my time, spending summers in Sweden and winters in Hong Kong. It’s a great combination of cultures and weather.
What sort of work do you specialise in?
I specialize in high-end fashion & beauty.
I love the language of fashion; everything you wear, every color you choose is a part of what makes you, you. From the cuts of the clothing to the texture and the materials used, the collection of your wardrobe describes you to the world.
Did you go to school to study photography?
I studied digital communications, as well as film photography.
How long have you been a photographer?
I started shooting in 2001. That makes it now more than 15 years.
What or who got you started in photography?
I honestly don’t remember why I started, but I will never quit. My heart now a shutter.
How would you describe your style?
My style is very bold and colorful, showing emotion through lighting & expression. Making you cry, laugh and relate to details in a photo you never thought you saw.
What type of cameras do you shoot with?
I’m a hard-core Nikon fan. At the moment I am shooting with the Nikon D810.
If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
I really do love my 50mm 1.4, it’s the one I use the most. Its sharp, never lets me down.
That said, if I’m shooting fashion I use my 24-70 2.8.
Are you a MAC or PC lover?
Whats a PC? Love my MAC.
What gives you ideas and inspires you to create such great imagery?
I get inspired by those around me that make a difference in the world. I want to focus on the positive and ambitious events and people, making the world a brighter place one story at a time.
What has been your most memorable assignment and why?
I shot the campaign for Bodvar of Sweden a few months ago at a beautiful location near Stockholm. The styling, models and location made this a really magical shoot.
What is your favourite image you have shot recently?
An image I shot for Bodvar of Sweden campaign
Can you describe its creation in regards to location, lighting, composition etc., also your thoughts when creating the image and what it means to you?
We were at Görvälns Slott near Stockholm Sweden. The shoot took a full 8 hours to shoot with a large team and two models. There was one location I was extra excited about shooting, because I fell in love with this sofa. It was made for a king, glittering of gold, the model blonde and fair like a doll. I used two soft boxes to give this image a heavenly glow showing off the Rose wine standing by her feet. The feeling I got from this image was that of a dream. It feels like I truly shared a piece of myself in this image.
A photographer who inspires you?
I don’t have a certain photographer that inspires me. I have many photographs that inspire me. I am inspired by older paintings when art was made to be bold and show the truth. I am inspired by ads that contain a message, and that have the courage to relay that message.
