The record is an intoxicating fusion of Georgia Mooney’s dreamy, ethereal voice over lush, cinematic soundscapes, Full of Moon beholds previously released singles; ‘War Romance’, ‘Break It Off’, ‘I Am Not In A Hurry’, ‘Soothe You’ and ‘Nothing Is Forever’.
An ode to connections of all sorts, it examines the complexity of human relationships and their variations. When stories have many sides, they also have many truths. It was recorded remotely over 18 of the strangest months in living memory, linking an all-star band based across three continents. The album grew outward in response to the physical world closing in; even the more intimate songs luxuriate in their drama.
Full of Moon’s songs were penned half on piano and half on a handmade dulcimer that Mooney won in a raffle and subsequently fell in love with. Influences span from every member of the Wainwright family, Joni Mitchell, the sophistication of the Great American Songbook and even classical composers sift through the songs seamlessly, alongside fuzzed out guitars and production that evokes the unsettling genius of Kate Bush. It was made during a period of global tragedy, as a way to find solace and catharsis in art and love. This record seeks someone to spend the end of the world with.
Across her string of debut solo singles, Georgia Mooney has already attracted support and praise from the likes of Daily Telegraph, Wonderland, The Most Radicalist, frankie Magazine, Rolling Stone Australia, The Music Network, NME, Pilerats, Q News, Music Feeds, Tone Deaf, The Music, The AU Review and beyond, with radio support from Double J, FBi, 2SER, Triple R, PBS, Edge Radio and many others.
Full of Moon was co-produced with Grammy Award-winning heavyweight Noah Georgeson (Cate Le Bon, Devendra Banhart, Marlon Williams, Joanna Newsom). With the original plan to record in LA during 2020 out the window, Mooney and Georgeson used the situation to their advantage and recruited some of their all-time favourite musicians from three continents to contribute to the making of the album remotely. String arranger to the stars, Rob Moose (Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver, Taylor Swift) contributed magnificent string parts to six songs from his studios in NYC, Sam Dixon (Adele) anchors, twists and transports songs with his creative basslines sent from London, Marcus Hamblett (Laura Marling, Villagers) crafted worlds within worlds with layers of synths, guitars and horns from Brighton, England, with Ben Edgar (Angus & Julia Stone), who brings unique texture with his eclectic guitar parts from Germany, and renowned jazz drummer Evan Mannell’s impeccable and inventive rhythms, collaborating from Mooney’s home of Eora/Sydney.
Georgia Mooney is unlike any other currently emerging artist. Her sound soars with a timeless energy that oozes an individuality that was born to be cherished. Stream the album now and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Georgia Mooney.
