‘From the Heart to the Hands’ is the new exhibition opening in Paris for the Italian fashion house: Dolce and Gabbana, and is aiming to leave those within the industry stunned, inspired, and passionate. It is opening in the New Year with a ten-week residency at the Grand Palais. From January 10th to March 31st, the space will be an opulent homage to their elite couture showcasing their dedication to Italian heritage, to unearth Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s, iconic ideas, craftsmanship, and adoration for the phenomenon that is their luxury fashion house.
Ten themed rooms will take over the historic building, showcasing lavish garments, including dresses, jewelry, shoes, and bodices. A particularly anticipated room is the Opera room. Here is where costumes inspired by operatic librettos and adorned with intricate embellishments will be displayed, an artistic tribute to Italy’s theatrical heritage, illustrating a fusion between fashion and the arts. As well as the Monreale Collection which will stand amongst mosaic dresses. A collection curated to celebrate Sicily’s cultural wealth.
Curated by Florence Mùller, a professor at the Institut Français de la Mode where she teaches the History of fashion, it has been clear from the off, the exhibition portrays the desirability and sleekness the fashion the label is known for. According to Dolce & Gabbana the showcase ‘explores the brand’s unconventional approach to the world of luxury, characterised by elegance, sensuality and uniqueness, while also embracing humour, irreverence and subversion.’
The integration of various arts like Murano glass work, Byzantine mosaics, and Majolica ceramics and embroidery are some examples of the Italian touch that will be intertwined with the various displays and collections.
Overall, ‘From the Heart to the Hands’ is aiming to be a space for creatives to come together and endure the craftsmanship with their own eyes. A space for inspiration, motivation and appreciation within Parisian culture – what’s better than that?
