As BRAT Summer took the world, social media, and Spotify by storm last year and created a cultural reset within the music industry, its left people wondering is that now, ‘so last year’ and uncool. Well, the answer is no as Charlie XCX, BRATS mother, is back as she headlines Coachella this year.
Since 1999 Coachella has been known as one of the most iconic music festivals in the world, also giving it an upper hand when it comes to booking their headlining artists. Alongside Charlie XCX, Greenday, Travis Scott and Lady Gaga are taking to the stage to perform for the 250,000 guests. The main Coachella stage, Outdoor Theatre, Mojave Stage, Gobi Stage as well as the site’s two more arenas will be packed with eager fans, influencers and celebrities as they attend.
However, there has been some controversy as to whether this headline is as unbeatable as the past few years. With last year locking in Lana Del Rey and in 2022 securing heartthrob, Harry Styles has left attendees questioning if the ticket price is good enough. Nevertheless there is no doubt that the 90s band choice of Greenday will symbolise punk rock once again and Lady Gaga will bring out her Poker Face taking fans back to the 2010’s.
The music festival has high anticipation not just due to its A-List celebrity headline but also due to the celebrity spotting that can be participated in. Over the years goers have spotted the likes of: Timothee Chalamet, Justin Beiber, Rihanna and Selena Gomez mingling amongst the crowds. It’s also a chance for the chronically online Gen Z to have a deep insight into what it would be like at the festival, as YouTube star Emma Chamberlain posted ‘An accurate Coachella Vlog’ in 2019 which gained 16 million views. As well as the TikTok icon Yasabllewallace who has made the social media club ‘ourchella’ as a way of documenting her time at the festival. The question for this year is, who will be the account to watch for this background info?
Fashion also plays a huge role within the festival with all sorts of art and couture being worn in the desert. This year fashion brands like Revolve, White Fox Boutique and Adidas are all partnering with Coachella to offer exclusive experiences and events.
Coachella 2025 will be a cultural phenomenon for all areas of human enjoyments…food, fashion, media and of course music. The festival is set to start on April 11th with the second weekend starting the 18th April.
