After their performance together at New York’s Global Citizen Festival in 2018 and having been spotted together on multiple occasions over the last few years, the rumours are true… Black Coffee and Usher have finally released the product of their creative collaboration. Black Coffee, one of dance music’s most prolific DJ and producers, has teamed up with the Grammy award-winning, international star Usher on new track “LaLaLa.” After releasing “Wish You Were Here” featuring Msaki back in 2018, “LaLaLa” slams Black Coffee back onto the scene, showcasing his signature rhythmic production and up-tempo groove. The production forms the perfect backdrop for Usher’s soulful vocals to take centre stage, forming the most chilled dance track to gracefully draw our summer to an end.
Born Nkosinathi Maphumulo in eThekwini, South Africa, 1976, Black Coffee’s story is well known by now. He found his way from humble beginnings to now being recognised as one of the world’s top DJs and producers. Even the loss of the use of his left arm when he was hit by a moving vehicle as a teenager could not slow him down. Releasing his powerful debut album Black Coffee in 2005 and forming Soulistic Music, Black Coffee’s wholly owned corporate structure, he now plays a distinct brand of soulful, contemporary house music which is recognised globally.
This global recognition and praise has paved the way towards his collaborations with the likes of Drake, Jorja Smith, Alicia Keys, and now Usher. Considered as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, Usher is an icon of his generation. Now as a multi-platinum and diamond certified artist, his unique brand of R&B has been the soundtrack to our chilled nights since he dropped his first record in 1994.
Fast forward to 2019, the result of Black Coffee’s South African origins and Usher’s R&B sensibilities has resulted in a smooth, sultry tune in the shape of “LaLaLa.”
