PREMIERE: Anton ft. Folly Rae “i need u here (cortado)”

Norwegian producer Anton. Has gone from strength to strength musically and the release of the single ‘I need u here (cortado)’ (featuring UK sensation Folly Rae) adds to this triumph. Anton.’s previous releases have placed him firmly as one to watch in 2018. Likewise, UK star Folly Rae has headlined the ‘BBC Music Introducing Stage’ at Glastonbury 2017 and brings all of her greatness to this track. Experimental and easy melodies coupled with powerfully playful vocals is the result of an anton. and Folly Rae collaboration.

On first encounter, the single sounds like a premature (and welcome) summer-evening banger. And of course it can be, and likely will be. But it is also more than that. In fact, Anton.’s steel-pan and synth experimentation on the track has been appreciated and praised by many. The tropical feel of the hit makes for a summery vibe – until you let the music video tell you differently. ‘i need u here’, with all of it’s blustering winds, puffer jackets and sunless skies, tells a story of a kind of joy that exists right here, before the summer romance and it’s anthems.  It’s refreshing and exactly what we need – an anthem that brings us the spirit of summer in the dead of winter.

Director Sean L. T Cartwright takes Anton.’s unique production style and Folly Rae’s fun, Pop vocals and masterfully conceptualises this in the video. We get a strong sense of the youthful and the laid-back. The energy and the delicacy. The danger and intimacy. Cartwright reminds us of a moment where there is no juxtaposition to be found in roaring vehicles aside gentle romance. All of this with an otherwise mundane, naturalistic backdrop warms us with a happiness summer doesn’t need to endow this time.
