Interview with Hype-O

What’s your age and where are you from? Also can you tell us what you do?

I’m a 25 year old rapper/songwriter from the East midlands.  I was born in Nigeria, but spent some of my earlier childhood in Austria and London, before moving to Lincoln city.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single stressin’?

Stressin’ is a follow up track to my last single 60 seconds and we shot the video as a two part story. 60 seconds was based on the scenario of a guy meeting a girl that he’s into, and wanting a minute of her time to conversate with her. Whilst Stressin’ shows a stressful time later on in that relationship.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The hook and basis of the song were inspired by conversations I’d had in the past with my guy mates, where the topic was what a current, or ex girlfriend, had recently done to stress them out. When we were in the studio listening to the beat, the vibe and feel of the song just seemed to click with what we came up with.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, I’m definitely looking to organise a tour in the near future.

Who is your inspiration?

I’m inspired by a lot of grime and hip-hop artists. I grew up mostly listening to artists like Kano, Ludacris and Jay-Z to name a few. But the first music I was really introduced to was mowtown and reggae by my parents.

As an artist how do you pick your fashion style?

I never really know what to class my fashion style as. Someone once described it as street cool, so I’d say that’s close enough. I like styles that are comfortable but have something that makes them unique. I also like black. I wear a lot of black.

What else is happening next in Hype-O’s world?

I’ve been working on a lot of new material, with some very talented producers and musicians around the country. I’m looking forward to releasing the tracks we’ve come up with, in the lead up to my EP that’s dropping  later this year.
